Artist Rebirth Cycle: A Video Course
Sarah Grass
Self-Paced Video Course
About the offering:
This 9-chapter self-paced video course is designed to nurture the birth and rebirth of an artist's process. Whether you are newly identifying as an artist or are interested in identifying new parts of your practice, this course is for you.
Each participant will expand their definition of artistic practice while engaging with a series of video essays and creative prompts. Through the metaphor of childbirth, we will focus on the internal realm of the feminine, along with other historically undermined parts-of-self that leave us creatively blocked, obscured, or inauthentic. Challenging traditional hierarchies of skill, sophistication, and historical or market relevance, we will engage in new modes of creative gestation that bring us closer to our true nature. Approaching art as a nurturing mother, we will practice radical acceptance as much as critique; patience as much as discipline. Combining philosophical frameworks with practical exercises, participants will be encouraged to reimagine their artistic purpose and creative habits.
This course includes:
- 11 video sessions (An introduction, 9 visual essays, and a closing).
- Each of the 9 chapters contain a visual essay (5-10 minutes), creative prompts including drawing, writing, meditation, observational practices, mind-material experiments, and more (ranging from 30 min to several days, to be taken at your own pace).
- A downloadable PDF workbook with additional resources and readings. -.Optional community group on Discord.
- Opportunities to submit your work for exhibitions.
